Isn’t Green Building just for “Greenies”No, it’s mainstream. Environmentalists do love Green Building, but so do a very rapidly growing number of “typical” homeowners. Lower energy costs, healthier homes, and less time and money spent on maintenance is something that appeals to everyone.
All of this is overwhelming, can you simplify Green Building?A Green Building is a higher quality building that is easier and less expensive to maintain, healthier to live in, and uses less energy and resources.
The home I live in now isn’t Green, and I’m not sick. Does Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) really matter?Yes. According to the EPA, the prevalence of asthma, particularly in children has doubled since 1976. Poor IAQ has been linked to ADD and asthma in children. Worst of all the effects of the indoor environments we live in may not be fully realized for years. IAQ may be the MOST important issue for any building.
I’m on a budget. Can I afford to Build Green?Yes. Green Building does not have to be more expensive than conventional construction. Many traditional products and methods can be upgraded to Green products for no additional cost.
I want to Build Green. How do I know if my Builder really is a Green Builder?Ask to see documentation that they have been trained and certified in Green Building practices by a reputable agency. Also ask the builder to provide you with a list of references, and contact those references.
How much money will I save on my utility bills if I build a Green Building?It depends. There are many levels of Green Building when it comes to using less energy. Depending on which route you decide to take, it is possible to build a home that uses very little or even zero energy from public utilities.
Isn’t the whole “Green” thing just a bunch of hype?No. Green Building is construction taken to the next level, it’s better building. Creating buildings that last longer, are easier to maintain, healthier, and less expensive to operate is not a fad, it’s the future.
I don’t want to move. Can I upgrade my existing home to a Green Building?Yes. Green Building is not just for new homes. Today there are many things that you can do to make your existing home better, more comfortable, and higher performing. |
